What's really at stake with the Iran nuclear deal? : Comments

By Robert Berke, published 21/8/2015

What the US and its allies are trying to accomplish is no less than the reversal of political hostilities that have marginalized Iran for over thirty years and fueled hostility across the region.

Common sense, which is anything but common, would have former detractors coming onside; given the only other option was war and possible mushroom clouds over the Middle East!?

Eventually it will mean a big, mushroom cloud over the the Middle East, and goodnight Isreal.

Thankyou, Mr. Obama.

The writer seems to admire Obama.

But the fact is, every foreign policy adventure of Obama has resulted in being on the wrong side of history.

1. BHO appeased Russia by removing anti-Russian missile installations in Eastern Europe that Putin viewed as a ‘threat’. The retreat was a humiliation to Poland and the Czech Rep. And more so to the US.

2. BHO tried to look strong by condemning Russia’s move into Ukraine. His response was to place weak sanctions on Russia. Today Crimea has returned lock stock and barrel to Mother Russia and eastern Ukraine has become a ‘disputed territory’.

3. BHO stood with the terror group the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and against pro-Western leaders like Hosni Mubark and General al-Sisi

4. When BHO sees the PRC’s military/real estate development in the South China Sea his comments are of so little consequence they no doubt elicit much laughter in the corridors of Beijing.

5. He has made little headway in the war against Da’esh. Which is no doubt just the way he wants it.

6. And now Iran, where he was not tricked into an agreement but under his mentor Zbigniew Brzezinski he willingly signed a deal with the nation responsible for funding, ordering and butchering 241 US marines in Beirut on 23 Oct 1983

That is one hell of a legacy to leave, Mr President.

Jonathan, your comments regarding the state of play in the Ukraine seem right on the money; and the missing testicular fortitude, would have the missiles replaced?

As to ISIL, they recognize no borders, neither should we!?
Cheers, Rhrosty.

Jonathan, it's obvious that you don't admire Obama. That's fair enough, but your criticism of his actions isn't. Your use of "no doubt" when you mean "there's no evidence" indicates that your opinion is based on an irrational hatred of him rather than what he's actually done.

The proper use of "no doubt" would indicate there's strong reason not to doubt. For instance, no doubt you think America would be better off letting incidents from more than thirty years ago preventing it from making agreement that are strongly in its (and everyone's) interest now. The evidence being your point 6.

Aidan

I see you point. Perhaps I could have phrased the line in question better.

You are right.

As Da'esh/ISIL/ISIS recognises no borders, neither should the West, IF the West is dinkum in its fight against them and erasing their presence.

If however the Obama led West is engaged in a Clayton's like battle, then it's probably best the USAF returned its few aircraft back to their hangers and admit defeat sooner rather than later.

The Appeaser-in-Chief can then move on to his next defeat and continue on his quest to make the United States the irrelevant nation he so desperately seeks.
