Defining the Aussie Mussie : Comments

By Kuranda Seyit, published 13/8/2015

It's our term, we own it and we should decide who uses it 'and the conditions' in which they do, just like the n-word which is exclusively used by Afro-Americans.

So what is it? Aussie Mussie or Aussie Mossie? The second sounds better but, frankly, I cringe ever time I hear 'Aussie'. I am an Australian, not an Aussie!

Either way, Aussie Mussie or Mossie, it does NOT "break down barriers" as Kuranda Seyit claims: it does, in fact, cause a further distinction and barrier with the rest of us.

Why the deliberate distinctions? No other Australians feel the need to add their religion - if they have one - to their nationality.

Muslims just don't get it. In a secular country, it's nationality before religion, no matter how important your religion is to you: it's a private matter.

Until Muslims do get that, they will never be Australians.

Submitting to God is the most wonderful thing - so long as you submit yourself and not others!

Unfortunately Islam earned itself a name for doing the latter, which trigger the fear of the community.

I find it sad to hear that people like the author instead bend their back and submit themselves to the Australian culture and identity in order to become an "Australian": once you submit to God, you don't need any identity but His and you cannot serve two masters at once.

... For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. [Jeremiah 2:13]

Please submit yourself to God alone. All I ask is that you stop submitting others - everyone will come to God eventually on their own, when their are ready, not a second earlier or later.

Well said Sir, more of the same please!

You say Aussie Mossies have a sense of humor? Try these two on for size.

Q: How do you know when an Aussie mossie in on the level?
A: He or she dribbles out both side of his or her mouth.

Q: Why are Aussie Mossies always buried 8 foot deep?
A: Because deep deep down Aussie Mossies are really nice people?

A comment heard from an Aussie Mossie during the infamous bodyline series?
Mr. Jardine, stop belting our flies.
Rhrosty.

The whole lot of religionists can submit to their imaginary friend in the sky but do not expect me to.
Do not forget the murders this year and these sh#$ people wanting to leave our country and add to the murder and mayhem in the middle East. We should pressure native muslims to actually do something and prove they are worthy to be in a peaceful country. Ostracise and inform on the jihadists would be a good start.
The President of Tunisia was said to have closed mosques over the recent murders, now what about that happening here?

"Firstly, the term Mussie is not something that Australian Muslims generally call themselves."

Then it's not *your* term.
You don't "own" it if you don't even use it.

"It is Arabic for "one who submits"; as all Muslims submit to the commands of God"

It seems "submit to the commands of Muslims" is a more accurate translation.

Submission is the opposite of aggression, but it's usually the latter in evidence.
Buddhism and Taoism are more "submissive" and not just in words.
Tao means The Way. No need for commands. The Way just is.

"the early settlers that came here in the late 19th and early 20th centuries had some time on their hands"

Really?
I guess the cities, farms, mines, roads, dams, bridges and railways just built themselves.

Are "surfie", "truckie" and "bikie" "terms of affection"?

No, they're just our (that is "Aussie") slang way of abbreviating (what you would call "lazy").

We have a lot of terms in our slang for people like you.
None of them are "affectionate".

Never having heard the term “mussie”, I read enough of this baseless and silly article to ascertain what the author meant. Has he not heard the term “raghead”, which is immediately understood.
I never refer to myself or fellow Australians as Aussies, and am nauseated by “Aussie Aussie Aussie, oi, oi, oi. But I am not a mussie, with a misconception of Australian sub-culture.
