By Graham Young, published 15/7/2015

The 2015 Queensland Budget essentially ignores the real issues in Queensland, or tries to make them vanish through creative accounting.

Yes Graham.

Their forecast is unusually optimistic and ignores unavoidable fundamentals like terms of trade and trade embargoes that make growth over 2.5% hard to see!

And growth is the only thing that will improve our economic prospects!

That said, our state or any other state is dependant on federal policies for a growth paradigm.

And that paradigm has to include massive tax reform and simplification!

We'd get all the growth we could handle if we decided to ignore "foreign control" and chart our own economic course, which in the first instance needs to open up our own reef for economic development!

It's all fine and good to talk about tourism as the way to rescue our economy; and inasmuch no different from any other Banana republic, which has sold or mortgaged its economic sovereignty!?

Passing strange the number of Canadian and American activists over here and dancing on the graves of our sacrificing forbears in their attempt to prevent us developing any and all our own reef located hydrocarbon resources; while they plow on with things like tar sands and shale oil.

All of which produce 4 times the amount of carbon from wellhead to vehicle in common use, than our own traditional sweet light crude.

And no I'm not suggesting a free for all as development but considered and carefully controlled development by our own oil corporation if only to ensure none of the shortcuts that created the gulf disaster are repeated here!

I've seen expert estimates in industry publications that include a reef sourced hydrocarbon resource to equal or surpass the entire hydrocarbon reserves of the middle East?

And should any of those estimates be anywhere near close to the mark?

Enough inherent growth to more than rescue our wilting and threatened economy! And include the possibility of "real" surpluses out as far as the eye can see!?

Yes it will take real courage to buck OPEC and other forms of mostly mindless economic interference, but that's what is what's required!
