By Roger Kalla, published 7/7/2015

Innovation in garbage handling in Norway is being held back by the low price that the efficient Swedes are charging for the service they provide.

For an alternative view suggesting that Swedish recycling policy is a disaster see https://mises.org/library/recycling-myth.

Much of the claimed benefits of the Swedish policy is said to result from generating electricity from incinerated garbage. Such benefits do not seem to get passed on to the consumer, as Sweden is noted for very expensive electricity.

The Swedish recycling system also seems very expensive in terms of taking up a lot of household time.

Roger, if the sorting of the rubbish is not voluntary, but under State compulsion, all you're doing is boasting of the profits of slave labour. No wonder the greens think it's delightful.

Yes there's a veritable fortune to be made from the recycling of Ewaste, and most households could be powered on the biological waste they produce, given blader stored methane, consumed via ceramic fuel cells which together in combination provide endless free hot water, plus the world's cheapest electricity!

Given a remarkable energy coefficient of around 80%; which compares very favourably with coal's 4 times more expensive, 20% energy coefficient!

Given we pump this stuff out to sea as millions of annual polluting tons, we are the ones with a predilection to seriously waste our waste!

Rhosty, I've seen you support the methane/fuel cell idea many times over the past year or so. Obviously you must have some expertise in this area, and you conviction of it's success suggests you must have invested significant amounts of your own money in companies that are successfully using this technology commercially. Can you tell us what companies you have invested in? Or of not, which companies are using this technology profitably?
