Even the prison governor testified to the example Chan and Sukumaran led in encouraging prisoners to lead drug-free lives.

The article contains: "Yes they were drug runners but that was ten years ago."

If every drug runner were put in prison their activities would be curtailed. There is no reason to assume that they would not still be drug runners had they not been caught. There also is no evidence that they had reformed. When a prisoner is released and does not offend again that is evidence of reformation. They behaved well in jail. That is not reformation.

The death penalty for drug trafficking in Indonesia is no secret. Chan and Sumarakan took a chance they wouldn't get caught. That is what every criminal does. Sometimes they don't get caught. Generally if they don't get caught they continue their crimes. This was not their first drug crime. This was their last.

It's rubbish. How can convicted and executed drug runners be 'honoured'? All this nonsense about scholarships in their names just shows how low the intellectual elite has sunk, and it augers for a downward trend in decency in this country.

Who cares whether or not they were reformed or rehabilitated. They were hardened, rotten criminals. What about most people who don't need to reform because they haven't committed crimes! Of course criminals pretend to have reformed if they are facing execution.

The people who carry on this way about the two thugs are as low down as the duo were, in mind at least.

It is disgusting!

Nadine has obviously watched "Breaking Bad" too many times, and has watched too many Hollywood movies. She thinks that drug traffickers are cool adventurers who live exciting lives, the police are criminals, and prison warders are worse than the people they guard.

The penalty for drug trafficking in Indonesia is death. Everybody knew that, including Chan and Sukamaran. They got caught and they were shot. That is their fault, Nadine, not Tony Abbot's.
