So Barry I notice you haven't included any information regarding levels of crime and welfare dependancy among "refugees", why is that?
The chances that your next dentist will be a refugee are slim to none given that around 80% of refugees are permanent welfare cases, 60% are mentally ill and a good proportion are disabled and not fit for work. What's more these middle class refugees have proven to be the most dangerous as far as terrorism, professional misconduct and other crime are concerned, all of the recent crop of ISIS supporters detected plotting to kill Australians came from "good homes", the most recent suspect is the son of a doctor no less. Let's not even get into medical malpractice, fraud, people smuggling, money laundering and drug dealing and the myriad other ways the middle class migrants stand over their less capable brethren. What you're importing with the middle classes of Asia and Africa are certain attitudes and dog eat dog mentality which while perfectly understandable to a person such as myself run contra to the sentiments expressed in your article. If you want a less fair society where the middle classes stand over the poor and treat them as little more than slaves then importing the middle classes of Africa and Asia, who come from a position of privilege to begin with and are the least likely to change their ways is a pretty good way to go about it. The peculiar habits and alien mindset of working class Asians and Africans can be confronting and annoying but they are assimilating well, the problems endemic in the Asian and African middle classes however are a threat to your way of life. Barry announces himself as a "long-time leftist" in his bio, then proceeds to make sure we do not doubt it, with this whimiscal peace of pure anarchy.
His excuses for his let-her-rip type take in who ever wants to come nonsense, point to Malcolm Fraser, the worst prime minister ever: one who died probably further to the left than Barry himself; the same PM who lumbered us with the stupid policy of multiculturalsim without consulation; And the great emotionalist, Bob Hawke, who made a fool of himself on TV, sobbing and busybodying himself about events in China. It has to be said, though, that the beneficiaries of these two ridiculous politicians were already here legally. Along the way, Barry even puts in a good word for economically-driven illegals, too. He even punts for for a could-be dentist, who is a thug and arsonist. Australian democracy, rule of law and sovereignty don't mean a thing to the old Baz. At least freedom of speech allows him to let us know just what our fate would be if people like him ever got power. Posted by ttbn, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 12:09:45 PM

Quote "30,000 is not a big number." it is when all are on welfare and or are a burden on the health system.
Quote "Christian compassion' for Australia Day next year." Tell that to the 10's of thousands of homeless in each state while we have NO homeless refugees. Sounds like you want to open the floodgates to the 100,000 plus refugees in Indonesia to come here. Charity begins at home Government should look after there own people first NOT look after others first at the expense of our own people. Posted by Philip S, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 3:39:05 PM

Ex Communist Babyboomer Peter Hitchens Confesses All
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okD08eh61bE Peter Hitchens is talking about the U.K but his remarks are relevant to all the anglophone nations, especially in the case of Australia where mass third world immigration has always been an entirely political programme based solely on importing voters and not workers. The politicians no longer subscribe to any ideology and there's no clear articulation of what sort of society they expect to mould with all this "nation building", as Hitchens said, we've all just turned our backs on each other. Phillip S, to put it into perspective that's the population of a city like Bathurst or Mildura, if the Left, the churches and the human rights industry had their way there would be unlimited numbers of people arriving to be immediately released into the community and given access to welfare and public housing.
The object of the excercise at another level is to get these "new arrivals" signed up to phone plans and personal loans, then job networks, english lessons, counselling and so forth. It's a massive scam and when the refugees have been bled dry and bankrupted they're left to rot out in the suburbs, just like in Paris,London,Toronto,Naples....and so on. From there they are further preyed upon by ethnic gangs and stand over men or exploited by corrupt labour hire bosses if they're lucky. Posted by Jay Of Melbourne, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 6:16:08 PM

The author is an absolute nutter, the last thing we need is another 30,000 free loaders in our community.
The system needs to be tougher so most are refused refugee status and kicked out. we should look for ways to export the author as well. Posted by Banjo, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 7:31:28 PM

The charities want them for 1 reason the more that come the more more taxpayers money they get to look after them, when the charities look after them the real cost to taxpayers can be hidden.
The charity boss on a percentage basis get more money. Posted by Philip S, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 10:58:12 PM

So what's the problem with letting those people in, but without social rights or benefits?
Just allow them to work hard or perish. Nothing of course would stop those who like refugees from supporting them financially. Posted by Yuyutsu, Thursday, 14 May 2015 12:24:20 AM

One can only wonder what motivates Barry York's attitudes?
Is he a person with no allegiance at all to his own people and his own culture.? An "Internationalist" who thinks that mixing up cultures in one country is the way to world peace? Or is he just somebody who takes compassion and charity to it's absolute and thinks that every Australian should sell their cloak and follow Jesus? Barry, old mate, you live in probably the best country in the world and that is no accident. The reason why Australia is a great country is because until recently, we had a great population of people. Mexico is a shiithole because it is full of Mexicans. Iraq is a shiithole because it is full of Iraqis. Same for Afghanistan, Africa, Brazil, parts of the USA, parts of the UK, and now, parts of Sweden, France, Holland and Belgium. There are parts of Sydney where decent people do not want to live like Sydney's "Gaza Strip" because of immigrants who are turning these areas into the Chicago of the Pacific. We don't want or need any more immigrants who hail from those societies and we certainly don't want any people who are already breaking Auystralia's immigration laws to have an amnesty. Because if we did, Barry, every person in every dysfunctional country in the world would be heading for Indonesia and booking a passage to Australia. And they will turn Australia into another cesspit like their own countries. As JOM has pointed out in his excellent post, people from these areas do not have the same values and attitudes that we have. They are extremely racist, very loyal to their own kind, more loyal to their own former homeland, religion and culture than to any allegiance to Australia, and usually possess a dog-eat-dog mentality. Some have medieval concepts of male honour which makes them particularly dangerous, and they will eventually totally destroy the social cohesion in this country and make it into the very thing they fled from. Just look at Europe, Los Angeles, Brixton, and Paris and extrapolate forward to Detroit. Posted by LEGO, Thursday, 14 May 2015 3:30:56 AM
