New challenges for Modi in 2015 : Comments

By Graham Cooke, published 6/1/2015

Pakistan may be Modi's most intractable foreign policy challenge, but the BJP is also in trouble at home over allegations of forced conversions of Christian villagers by right-wing Hindu nationalist groups.

I was surprised that a month or so after the G20 in Brisbane that Modi paid a quickie visit to Campbell Newman. I think Newman promised public funding for the Galilee Basin rail line to help get coal to India. However I'm sure the general tone of the G20 visit speeches were to the effect India was aiming hard at low carbon energy. It's all quite strange.

Come on Taswegian when it comes to people needing energy for heating, cooling, producing food, driving cars the gw rhetoric is just that. Sensible people learned long ago that life is far more comfortable now we have energy and that the prophets of gw have shown themselves fraudulent at best. Some of the biggest indulgers of energy from coal seem to be the evangelist who roam the globe and living in mansions while preaching to the third world that they can't have such luxuries.

Modi has certainly defied expectations of many inside and outside India that he would rapidly pursue Hindu nationalist causes (including putting extra pressure on Pakistan).

Seems OK so far...
