The fall of the would-be emperor : Comments

By Alon Ben-Meir, published 24/11/2014

Erdogan has never been fazed by the fact that today's Turkey is not the Ottoman Empire and that the Ottomans were not as admired by the peoples they governed, as Erdogan wants to believe.

An erudite and well argued account!

Perhaps formal ejection from NATO, will tell this turkey from Turkey, neither he nor his tyrannical rule is wanted in either the EU or NATO, which requires several things!
Reliability as an ally first and foremost!
Followed by freedom of the press as a virtual absolute! Followed by a crackdown on corruption!

And this Islamist tyrant's need to control everything and everybody, is all that prevents a lasting peace deal with the Turkish Kurds; a must do before anyone throws out an economic welcome mat.

As is his patent push to turn a once proud democracy, into just another reviled theocracy; very much like an isolationist Iran!

Does anyone believe another Iran would be welcome in the EU, let alone remain a sitting member of NATO!

Interesting article.

Turkey is often cited by Islamic apologists as an example of a 'moderate' Muslim majority nation, not for much longer, apparently.

The poor dear is reflection an Islamic rosy glasses view of the past. The Moors and everyone else in Spain lived in harmony and accord, until those nasty Christians staged the reconquest. Now why would they do that if everyone was happy and contented?

Everyone one else in the Ottoman empire was happy and content, except for the populations of southern Austria and Serbia who were twice exterminated by Ottoman armies moving through. Nearly forgot, also brothers of the Caliph! The only empire in which fratricide was a legal requirement.
