The road to hell : Comments
By Peter Kurti, published 30/10/2014Campaigners in the Anglican Diocese of Perth, led by convicted Hilton bomber Evan Pederick, have followed national church policy adopted earlier in the year and forced the Perth synod to dump all its fossil fuel investments.

What are you invested in Rhosty? I've been interested to know since reading your comments on energy etc. If you don't mind me asking.

@ Aiden on page 1.
“JF Aus, Even if the science is incomplete, the evidence is so strong that it would be unreasonable not to reach the conclusion that something must be done.” “I'm a bit puzzled by your reference to sewage, though – I thought underwater volcanoes were the main source of nutrients in the ocean?” Evidence is strong indicating that human influence is changing climate somewhere sometimes but not globally at the same time. Evidence is not strong about emissions and CO2 being the cause, or that emission reduction is a solution. Yes, something must be done but the correct solution must be applied. Nobody should be puzzled by sewage waste from 7 billion humans dumped daily into the water ecosystem of this planet. Sewage is loaded with nutrients bonded to fresh water that tends toward the surface on entering ocean salt water. Prevailing winds drive surface water long distances. Onshore winds press the surface nutrient loading against coastlines where tides draw nutrients into estuaries, where seagrass nurseries are supposed to produce small fish that form the fundamental supply of food for big fish and animals in the ocean. Nutrient over-loading is proliferating algae-epiphyte growth on seagrass leaf that is shutting down photosynthesis, killing most seagrass worldwide. Volcanoes and other sources of nutrients add to the nutrient loading. Some species of macro and micro algae are now so prolific and dense that change to water colour can be seen. Look for the more dense green colour more often in coastal waters, including the green more often in ocean waves in surfing videos. Microscopic algae is now so dense it can even be seen from satellites, pinpoints of cloud and weather forming above and even parallel to algae is also apparent. http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/NaturalHazards/view.php?id=40716 It’s time all governments and corporations and faith’s looked into solutions to impact of food and arable land shortage. Whole world ocean seafood supply is no longer sustainable, yet affordable food and living is vital. There is need for unity and teamwork to discuss and implement real solutions instead of engaging in fake CO2 trading and war. Posted by JF Aus, Friday, 31 October 2014 7:19:55 AM

"Social justice is giving everyone a fair go ' very sweeping statement Aidan." Of course it is! A very sweeping concept demands a very sweeping explanation! "One could only assume you include the unborn babies in this statement and the right for the Jews to live in their homeland in peace." Your assumption would be correct, though I may disagree with you on how to achieve this. __________________________________________________________________________________________ JF Aus – Most of the sewage waste from humans is not dumped into the water ecosystem of the planet. And while I concur that that which is is a serious problem for seagrass, have you any evidence for the claim that it's "killing most seagrass worldwide"? I notice the photo you linked to had a lighter colour where the algae were. Doesn't this suggest it has a cooling effect, contradicting your original point? Aidan,
Methodism and "moderate" Islam are the only two real ideological movements in Australian society at present, the Salvation Army and Uniting Church are both Methodist and they're the main players on the Christian side. Muslims who are friends with Jews and Judaised Christians aren't really Muslims, so no they don't deserve a fair go because they're impostors. The real Muslims are the fundamentalists who segregate themselves from society and I don't have a problem with them because they think and act the way normal people do, ie they keep to themselves. The spread of Islam in Australia owes much of it's success to co-operation with Anglicans an Methodists and to a lesser extent the Catholic church, the churches are selling them land and buildings for their Mosques and schools. Aidan,
Most humans on this planet live within a water ecosystem that has a water supply and a water table. Water used by humans does not just vanish. Even long-drop toilets have some water flow through during rain. The nutrient loading can accumulate but eventually rain and runoff and the water table flow takes long drop nutrients away to sea level at least. There is very considerable and various irrefutable evidence sewage nutrient overload has already killed most seagrass worldwide. Killed, not killing. For example here in space and time available, consider that sewage is dumped daily. Impact of over fertilizing plants is known, unmanaged daily fertilization is preposterous. Hydroponics use strictly regulated amounts. Damage to seagrass and areal loss can be seen immediately downstream from city sewage outfalls. Older people know what was there before and can see the loss. Fresher water current flow can be seen moving away from outfall areas. Photographs show a virtual slick formed by fresher water on the ocean surface. As for the amount of seagrass lost already I suggest note the section on seagrass in the initial State of the Marine Environment Report (1996) (Leon Zann). However government dumped sewage was not and is still not being seen as the fundamental excess nutrient loading source . The lighter colour in that mid water Bering Sea algae is because the species is coccolithaphore that has a silica shell instead of being totally chlorophyll green plant matter. The latter can be seen flowing north against the coast of Alaska, in Bering Sea and Arctic waters where sea ice is reported melting more than usual. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/16/Bering_Strait.jpeg Based on evidence of substance I think cooling occurs when sunlight is lost during night or due to cloud shading sunlight, and I think this could be reason for the anomaly in AGW ocean temperature measurements. Dumping fossil fuel investment is a waste of time and a distraction to real solutions now so urgently required. Posted by JF Aus, Friday, 31 October 2014 9:18:48 PM

This is of course the same Diocese which has decided to hold its Synod in Mindarie for the next three years. Never mind the cost in fossil fuels to get everyone up there as there is effectively no public transport on the week end! I suspect all the clergy and lay members from the southern regions will be missing next year for most of the time.
Besides, the diocesan trustees are not required to abide by Synod resolutions, they are independent and will make their decisions on solid financial grounds. In short, another piece of grandstanding by people who only like to see their name in the papers. Posted by Jon R, Saturday, 1 November 2014 12:38:12 PM
