Will Ukraine commit economic suicide? : Comments

By James Stafford, published 9/10/2014

Ukraine is on the brink of committing economic suicide after imposing a crippling 55 percent tax on private gas producers, while parliament prepares to vote on next year's budget, which aims for a continuation of the same.

It's their gas James!
Would that the rest of the oil and gas owning world had their courage!
I mean, who gives a rats, if a few billionaire fossil fuel companies have to pay tax, or actually rip out less profit from other peoples' property/resources?
I just don't see a problem, or how the Ukraine could be worse off!
Stiff cheddar for the multinational, tax avoiding rip off merchants/carpet baggers though.
Perhaps they can protect their cash flows by pumping vastly more gas!?
If not then my heart fairly bleeds for those poverty stricken, much maligned, living on the smell of it, oil companies/oil company execs.
Poor little ickle diddums.
Rhrosty.

Maybe they got the idea from the idiot Rudd who tried a 40% super tax on mining.

Just my thought SM.

I was wondering if they had hired the dreaded trio, Rudd, Gillard & Swan as advisers.

Is it possible that another bunch of politicians could be as stupid as that lot, particularly when they have the results of the stupidity to study right in front of them?

That would be cruel and unusual punishment.

Amazing how one can define a country in terms of a narrow topic such as an oil and gas tax. Ukraine has much bigger problems, a hint of which was contained in the quote "Fedorin also said "the list of (election) candidates includes out-and-out sociopaths, civic activists, second-rate businessmen, career politicians, crooks of all kinds and even major embezzlers of state funds." Missing from this list are, inter alia, the competing oligarchs who want a slice of the action for their own enrichment, and the neo-Nazis who dominate the "government" in Kiev. It is the neo-Nazi militias who are doing most of the fighting in the Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts.

Ukraine also has the problem of a $3.5 billion unpaid gas bill to the Russians. The OSCE, Germany, Russia and the rump government in Kiev are currently trying to negotiate a compromise, because if the Russians cut off the gas Ukraine freezes. That will focus their minds like nothing else. Far more likely in the short term is the breakdown of the "ceasefire" which has already been repeatedly violated by the neo-Nazi militias.

If you want an informed ongoing update of the Ukraine situation I recommend the Vineyard of the Saker website. But be warned, it contains information injurious to the mental health of those who rely on the Australian for their worldview.

James, could I urge you to be gentle with the likes of Shadow Minister, Hasbeen, RHRRROSTY, joeBigLoudMotorMouth!

Such people have believed implicitly in American propaganda for many decades and weaning them off it, well, be warned, they will fight against any mind-change with all their faculties, such as they are! In some cases it could result in nervous breakdown

All of them listened to SUPERMAN serials on the radio, them and the Lone Ranger. They haven't progressed any further. They still live back in 1945 when the world hailed the U.S. as winning the war on their own, a view heavily promoted by themselves.

Changing a mind-set is not easy. If you say, "Up, up and away" or "Hi ho, Silver," they will react understandably. But if you say, "Yanks are a threat to the Free World," they go into a tizzy, become disoriented, and start to foam at the mouth.

Yes, it's a slow process changing minds. Perhaps when the Yanks drop nukes on Russia and our world resembles a billiard ball, some Yank-Apologists might become alarmed.

Most will applaud, so dumb are they!

Hey David G, I was listening to your theme song just the other day, & I'm sure you live by it.

Yep that great one by Mac Davis, Oh Lord It's Hard To Be Humble. I like the version he did with Kenny Rogers.

I hope someone will do another up to date theme song for you. I have the title already. How about "My arrogance knows no bounds"? That should cover it.

Tell me, do you have a magic mirror? I'm sure that like Mac you can't wait to look in the mirror. Yours must be magic of course, if it shows you something other than an arrogant clown, with addled thinking.

Do keep it up, it helps set the image for global warmists we all so love & admire.
