When you measure it in apples, Australia is above the OECD average for tax.

Australia is a high tax country because it has 3 tiers of government who apply uncontrolled charges (e.g. Councils) and numerous hidden taxes buried in commercial products (e.g. Insurance).

Aside from over-charging/under performing governments, their requirements create additional costs that we don't need (e.g. Tax reporting) and that add no value to our social groups.

Finally, our governments create waste (e.g. spending all monies by June 30) both in government and in the community.

Adding up all of these costs delivers excess costs, waste and charges of around $100 bn (yes billion) and makes us uncompetitive, destroys initiative and undermines social cohesion.

The NBN is an excellent indicator of government performance and ability - massively overbudget, denying businesses access to the internet and hugely behind schedule. This for a project described as of great strategic importance to Australia.
