"The American and PLO failure (and how not to add Israel to that cast?) to achieve the "two-state solution" after 20 (?) years of fruitless negotiations represents a lost opportunity not likely to return for a long time ..."
Good! Enough already of the myth of two states. There is only one state between the River and the Sea. Accept it. Sort it. Get on with it.

Palestinian Collaboration Overshadows Latest Talks
By: Elias

This is the same Abbas, it should be recalled, who sabotaged efforts to bring the Goldstone Report on Operation Cast Lead before the UN Security Council; the same Abbas who has publicly rejected the Palestinian “right of return;” the same Abbas whose earlier willingness, and that of chief PA negotiator, Saeb Erekat, to acquiesce to Israel’s demands were exposed in documents turned over to Al Jazeera in 2011 by a Palestinian Edward Snowden, and the same Abbas who recently reaffirmed his opposition to boycotts, divestment, and sanctions directed against Israel itself.

U.O.G.
Very easy to read, very lucid, easy to follow commentary.
However, I don't think we're any closer to a lasting peace in Israel, particularly, now that Israel has taken to locking up Israeli Arabs.
That said, and given population rates, it's only a question of time before Non Jews are the new voting majority demographic in Israel.
And given that element would then effectively control Parliament, Mossad and the military? Perhaps it would be non-compliant Jews cooling their heels in some prison camp?
When measured against a 2,000 year history, around a decade is not a very long time to just wait patiently, to peacefully win that very control; and act, so as not to give the Jews, any reason to imprison, model Israeli Arab citizens!
Israel really has few choices, given the threat posed by Iran and similarly hostile nations, but to settle the Palestinian question once and for all! Or face a nuclear Holocaust?
And when the Israeli Arab is the largest voting demographic, perhaps other Arab nations will cease looking at Israel as some kind of threat?
I mean, one can rant and rail against perceived injustice, but no amount of that will change history, or past injustice.
Nor will a new round of genocide!
At the end of the day, war only produces victims, and no winners!
I mean, a nuclear war, even where two sides only ever exchanged 2-3 missiles, would make huge swaths of the Middle East, uninhabitable for literal centuries!
Today's H-bombs a at least ten times larger and ten times hotter than anything landed on Hiroshima or Nagasaki!
Sadly, this is probably what the world needs now, to end the threat of nuclear war for all time!? And given only madmen would facilitate it, ultimate justice?

There is an easily read and very informative recent book by Gareth Porter called Manufactured Crisis - The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare.
Iran is not a threat to Israel, except inasmuch as Israel has made it so.
And, no, the world does NOT need any degree of a nuclear war.

To all you Jew haters out there

I understand your shock at the inevitable collapse of the PLO - Israel Negotiations as evidenced by your terse one liners.

For too long you have been more intent on shooting the messenger and ignoring the message which was contained in my first article published on OLO in 2008:

"Presidential Nominee Barack Obama took only 14 words to effectively put paid to the idea that a third Palestinian State - in addition to Israel and Jordan - will be created during his term as President if he wins the forthcoming election in November.

Addressing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Washington this week Mr Obama declared:

… any agreement with the Palestinian people must preserve Israel's identity as a Jewish state.

Mr Obama had previously made this viewpoint very clear when answering a question put to him at a meeting of 100 members of the Cleveland Jewish Community on February 24, 2008:

Israel has to remain a Jewish state and what I believe that means is that any negotiated peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians is going to have to involve the Palestinians relinquishing the right of return as it has been understood in the past. And that doesn't mean that there may not be conversations about compensation issues.
Mr Obama - like President Bush - has now given his unequivocal support to Israel's rejection of the 40-year-old demand by the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) - endorsed by the 22 member States of the Arab League - that millions of former Arab residents or their descendants be allowed to emigrate to Israel."

All that time money and effort spent to achieve a zilch result that was blindingly obvious from day 1.

I won't hold my breath waiting

You can however make amends.

Express your thoughts on whether negotiations between Jordan and Israel to draw the international boundary between their two respective states can succeed where the PLO- Israel negotiations failed after twenty years of futile efforts to end the 130 years old Jewish-Arab conflict.
