“Real Christmas is when gifts are needed, and durability and economy are important”

Says who?

For Christians, real Christmas is when we celebrate the coming of the Christ-child and look to the promise of the in-breaking Kingdom. For retailers, it’s a chance to make up for the paper-thin margins of the past few months and keep heads above water for another year. For some, it’s a chance to catch up with family, to take a break from the stress of over-work, to veg out at the beach, or just an excuse to indulge in more food and drink than is good for us. For kids, it’s a time of magic and presents. And for those with time or a few dollars to spare, “real” Christmas is perhaps to think of others and help out a good cause.

I don’t begrudge Valerie her vision of “real” Christmas. But in this, as in all her articles, I do resent her censorious disapproval of others’ lifestyle choices. If sending unsigned Christmas cards and welcoming “father thriftmas” is what floats your boat, by all means do it, though to me it seems the height of green tokenism. Leave the rest of us to celebrate as we will

Read this article again, all you who are censorious -

"All over the world, people celebrate Christmas, regardless of religion, because it is a good idea, to enjoy giving, to enjoy receiving, to celebrate together, meet up families together, enjoy our children, and to celebrate a little baby and the birth of hope once again." Said V Yule
All V Yule added was to suggest some ideas about how to make it less wasteful. If you dont like the ideas, then that is up to you.
