The reason why successive State and Federal Labor and Liberal governments have by passed the self appointed aboriginal leaders with their endless calls for taxpayer funded "self determination" is because the leaders have proven to be extremely corrupt, and that they seem to have a vested interest in keeping aboriginal people at the bottom of society where they can be their taxpayer sinecured managers.

Labor and Liberals don't agree on much. But both sides of parliament know that giving self appointed aboriginal leaders access to public funds is a sure way to find them with their fingers in the till. And the alcohol fuelled violence towards aboriginal women and children will continue because the only responsible aboriginal leaders who really care about the dysfunction of aboriginal communities are the ones who support the government in this matter.

As usual, the author of this argument couches his self interest in high minded principles and a holier than thou attitude. Such argument would appeal to the more intellectually challenged posters on OLO, but those of us with a few brains can see it for the fig leaf that it is.

joe..i dislike..when they change..numbers to.per thousand
[why make numbers..smaller but to spin them]..i recall..that the numbers from qld revealed..980 out of every 1000..cuntry bumbkins was randomly tested..for booze..

thats ridiculous..clearly

but worse..manipulation..was the booze deaths
[that by reading..the fine print..went from 5000[total]..to two thousand..due to the presumed..'benifit..of a few..drinks only

THEY ACTUALLY changed the 5000 dead boozers..to 2000

its..all spin..GIVE ME..the RAW NUMBERS

what were..the pure numbers?
and why..are these so hard..to find?

my numbers..come from the sea of hands/stolen-gen/thing
i confirmed it..at the time..via other sources..in..the archive

now suddenly..instead of real_deaths..
we are talking..of deaths per thousand../WHY?

spin

as if..the census is the be all..and end all..in the wilderness

thing is..outback..they still got many diseases..they got..a high death rate..lead the suicide/numbers..etc etc..and still..the govt is making..ever more..coconuts..that enrich..their own nest

lest we recall..colonization..picks on those..cast out of the original society..make these..outcasts kings ..and the scam rolls on..[i noted that in canberra]..where the waradgeri mob kicked out..a group..that now is seen on tv..regularly..as the face of indigenous australia[indigenous..means..sans culture]..plants are indigenous..not men

thing is..its a messy business..[thats why..i invented the wikiseed/wikigeld..to give each..INDIVIDUALLY..our own credit..to spend..as we see fit[administrated and claimable..via the matriarchal line./.via..mens/womans circles.as predicted on the mural..at tent embassy...long-ago.

but the same..outcasts were encouraged
by..the gg the time..to get rid of me..[burned me..out 3 times]so after getting..speared..[and told that/that meant..spirit judged me re the money-issue..and found..me kosha..[by mick/spearer..of AB-origine passport fame]

i left not..knowing..who to trust..
this has only..been complicated since..as..so many..have died

if..you are..first people globally..you know..many funerals
too many dead..by the collinisation/hand..plus drugs.plus booze..boredum..lack of purpose

[joe..your census numbers..are fraud
and im..over trying to..validate why

i signed treaty..with dennis walker[who attacked me..in person 3 times..[the spearing..[mick]..was done good friday 2002..near where uncle kev.took back..his LAW totum..took the law totum back..that i repeated in qld..by taking..my ow3n totem back..from the state shield..[at high-court]..soon to/be..demolished

[my totum duty..is the head..of the deer..plus one golden ox horn

they each..have their dreaming..linked with judgments/plenty
BUT..greed confounds..the ability..to judge[clearly]..

but im so ..over the..lot of it.

Hi LEGO,

"The reason why successive State and Federal Labor and Liberal governments have by passed the self appointed aboriginal leaders with their endless calls for taxpayer funded "self determination" is because the leaders have proven to be extremely corrupt, and that they seem to have a vested interest in keeping aboriginal people at the bottom of society where they can be their taxpayer sinecured managers."

Yes, indeed, 'self-determination' has been a fraud: what did it mean other than whites would do more and more for people, doing the sorts of things they could easily do for themselves ? did it mean people would actively try to build their communities ? No. Was there enough funding for any and every genuine purpose, and a few others besides ? Yes. Was it used for its intended purpose ? No.

Meanwhile, a quiet revolution of sorts has been going on, as an aspirational class has seized the ample opportunities available over the last thirty years. Aspirationals 100, drop-kicks nil.

OUG,

Easy: 7.2 per thousand births in 2011, when there were around 12,500 births, translates as about ninety infant deaths, out of 12,500.

And what's the bet that very few of those deaths were what they call 'perinatal', i.e. infant deaths around the time of birth, i.e. in hospital, with proper care, or within the first month ? So often, so bloody often, babies are neglected and come back to the hospital within the first three to six months, malnourished, with gastro, otitis media, all avoidable causes of hospitalisation.

And also what's the bet that the vast majority of those hospitalisations - and deaths - are out in the holy of holies, the 'communities' ? Where BS 'self-determination' rules ?

Meanwhile, in the cities, amongst the aspirational class, I'll also bet there are hardly any hospitalisations or deaths. A clear division of classes, one aspirational, the other lifelong-welfare-oriented, waiting for yet more BS 'self-determination' from yet more social workers, members of the Australian Society of Social Workers Imposing themselves on People in Easily-soluble Situations ( ).

At this stage I am a sceptic about this mob but am prepared to wait and see before I travel the road to Damascus with them. Many false promises and illusions from earlier times by Aboriginal 'leaders' all failed in their responsibilities. But maybe this mob will be different. Maybe. Somehow my gut feelings are that this mob will focus on big ideas and big budget productions. Therein remains the nub where the problems begin. Aboriginal people [from my experience - 30+ yrs] just want to look after their own families and not the whole community, more investment at local levels through micro loans is needed, low risk, low interest rates, small family ventures. Just saying.
