By Gemma Machray, published 17/9/2013

As Tony Abbott packs up his swag and heads to the lodge, Rudd and his Labor government exit stage left, leaving some dubious accounting and an economy sporting more bruises than a prize fighter.

Look if Tony decides to have only one woman but 18 men in his Cabinet isn't that right in terms of the priesthood only being men?

Could it also be that the women were popular enough to get elected but not competent enough to run a portfolio.

The last Governments incompetence was not only faulty policy and incompetence but a party who also promoted on gender rather than ability. We see the results ( or total lack of them).

Don't worry Gemma... some of us actually read the article.

For everyone else here is the only paragraph that mentions women:

"So the question Abbott and his band of merry men (and hopefully a few women) will have to address is: how will they float a budget that, before its birth, is having to battle? The answer seems to lie in two places; domestic growth and Asia."

From the treatment of Pauline Hanson, Cheryl Kernot, of women who wanted abortions and now the 1 women-18 man Cabinet
I don't think Tony has anything against women

- per se.

Good article Gemma. You touched most of the problems, but not too many answers there. It is good to get a snapshot of Oz by an intelligent outsider who has not spun it with too much ideology. How about a few suggestions in another piece?

Oh, & a pity you mentioned the makeup of the new cabinet. It appears that little bit is going to draw all the attention, & not the more important stuff.
