Religious tolerance is under siege in Pakistan from all directions and the history of the ruling parties does not augur well.

All too true, but particularly in Pakistan!
A house divided against itself, can never stand!
Perhaps, Pakistanis, need to develop a zero tolerance for intolerance; stop with the excuse making/blame shifting, and just set about removing it, root, tree, branch and twig, in all its varied forms and guises.
The other answer has to be development, education and economic growth.
This more than anything else needs the currently missing social cohesion and cooperation!

The full name of Pakistan is:

"The Islamic Republic of Pakistan." (Islāmī Jumhūriya-ē Pākistān)

The word "Pakistan" is Urdu for "Land of the pure."

So what does anyone expect?

Iran and Pakistan are examples of "Islamic Republics" in action.

Ironically, however, Iran is mostly Shia and Pakistan persecutes the Shia.

So it goes.

Pointless !
Islam is incompatible with democracy.
It is so intolerant that it cannot exist with itself let alone any who
have even a belief in the existence of human rights.

It is a religious/political fascist system.
