Horse spotted in Lasagne: British food insecurity : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 15/2/2013

To advertise one thing, and serve another; to promise one form of product, but conceal the nature of its contents, is part and parcel of the food industry.

I can see why people would be worried about this substitution racket but after watching that program on the industrial production of beef and chicken the other night if I saw a frozen "organic" lasagne with a nice picture of a horse in a field or a cute little Kangaroo on the box I'd buy it. Geez, if we're going to survive on this planet without trashing the joint we're going to have to stop being so precious about what we will and won't eat, as long as it's labeled properly and prepared hygenically I say down the hatch!

Horsemeat in hamburgers? What are the odds on that?
I'm not sure how Tesco is going to get over this hurdle, but it could be worth a few bob each way...
Rumour has it Tesco is now testing their vegetarian burgers for traces of Unicorn...
Did you hear the one about a cow that walked into a bar? Complained that “illegal ingredients are coming over here, taking our jobs...”
I hear the smaller version of those Tesco burgers make great horse d'oeuvres.
I'm not flogging a dead horse here, am I?

I think it's pretty funny, that anyone did not expect it was happening. That being the case, I hope this is funny.

Q When is a bot not a boy?
A When he falls into the river, because he comes out dripping. [The old fatty stuff].

Q Wont he catch cold?
A Yes, so then he’ll probably become a little horse.

Q What will they do with him then?
A Cut him up & stick him in the Pommy lasagne. [Boom boom]

Oh, & in Oz it is probably not wise to say neigh, when offered a hamburger.

It is thrilling to think that Graham Kerr is still alive to appreciate that his TV show was 40 years ahead of its time.

It's protein under a generic name.
Obviously only the affluent westerners would be horrified.

Adds an extra perspective to asking to pass down the "dead horse" at a meal!
