By Sarah Burnside, published 7/2/2013

This election year promises to feature endless arguments about the facts.

Damn pity the long lead-up to the election won’t be about discussing the best way to achieve a sustainable Australia.

Gillard said right at the start of her Prime Ministership that she believes in:

“ a sustainable Australia, not a big Australia ”

... and then proceeded to lead a government that has powered towards a big Australia, and directly away from a sustainable future.

And Abbott’s mob aren’t going anywhere near that ‘sustainable’ versus ‘big’ stuff.

So either way, we’ll end up with a government that will continue to impose upon us a big and highly antisustainable Australia.

Damn pity that is, because this is the thing that really matters above all else.

Ludwig,
I basically agree with you. The question is however wherever we place a vote? Your post reflects some green thinking and I still agree if only the Greens weren't Watermelons ie, green on the outside and red on the inside.
Our thoughts however may separate when we boil down 'big Australia '. For me it is population. Too many people not enough resources. The last drought highlighted our concerns to provide enough water for all. Food security is now a major issue for the future.
The party that will get my vote will be the one who's policies closest reflect a real sustainable Australia not a popular or quick fix. Interesting times ahead.

Psst. Isn't it a shame we are even talking about sustainability.

Ain’t that the truth!

<< The party that will get my vote will be the one who's policies closest reflect a real sustainable Australia not a popular or quick fix >>

Trouble is Waterhole, neither party are going to go anywhere near it. They’re both totally and rampantly pro-expansionist and antisustainabilityist!

So I guess I’ll be doing what I’ve done for the last several federal elections and submitting it a blank ballot paper because no candidate or party deserves my vote.
