Oh god!

I believe in the right to safety of all women, & men for that matter anywhere, & that the punishment for any random violence is inadequate. That is the case in Oz or India for that matter.

Rape is really not that much different to other forms of violence which harms & injures, but perhaps should attract a higher punishment for it's physiological effect on many victims. It certainly requires a greater punishment that it currently attracts in India or Oz.

Still I find this article gets my back up. To me there is more effort put into how things are said, rather than what is said.

Then we get the anti colonial bit, what rubbish. Without colonization India would still be a backward feudal state, ruled by an extremely rich aristocracy, with virtually no freedom or infrastructure. Without what the poms built, granted for their own advantage, there would still be no modern Indian state.

I am so sick of these so called academics who couldn't see the truth if it was engraved on their eye balls. Equally bad are those who can see the facts, but are dammed if they are going to let mere facts spoil their chosen narrative.

Of course the Indians can also thank the second world war for allowing them to shake off their colonisers, & take control of a better destiny that the infrastructure, & the weakening of the previous power structure, made possible.

It really is time we took back our society from these self appointed arbiters.

Aristocrat,

I agree, blaming the "Patriarchy"or the "System" is all rather too glib, however, I doubt whether these types of ideological critiques have much impact these days, although they're irritating to read.

Hasbeen,

I generally agree with your comments on the Indian practice of blaming British Colonisers for most of the country's current political and social problems or claiming that colonisation halted indigenous industrialisation- it's thinly disguised racism, it's all the White Devils' fault.

A good post. Very similar to what I made of it; people just cant quite identify yet with actual history and the social and cultural changes that have overwhelmed people from traditional cultures battling to relate what they were brought up with, against how the current world operates.
