China's transition of government demands more of our attention than it is receiving.

The US Presidential election result has serious implications for Australia. Here is one.

The re-election of Obama, an advocate of climate change alarmism, carbon pricing and regulation, will encourage the Gillard government to put even more tax payers’ money into trying to justify and sell the carbon tax. More taxpayer dollars will be spent on advertising, on more bureaucrats trying to find justifications for it, and on more shuffles of Department heads to put those who support carbon tax and climate change alarmism into positions of influence.

Since the Labor government came to power they have moved the Head of The Department of Climate Change to be Head of Treasury (our most important department for management of the economy and economic modelling) and now, apparently, they are intending to move the new Head of Department of Climate Change to become head of the Productivity Commission.

Until now the Productivity Commission has remained independent and has an excellent international reputation for being highly competent. But if the Government moves a climate alarmist advocate to the head of the Productivity Commission, its reputation and independence will be seriously damaged, forever.

The reasons why the media pays far less attention to changes in the Chinese leadership, than it does in the US were apparent in the article. The Chinese are inherently secretive. Their changes are hammered out behind closed doors, far away from any outside review or criticism. Attempts to find out what is going on are routinely rebuffed. Chinese journalists know it is not wise to ask too many questions. The transition, when it occurs, is always presented as a fait accompli. This may be much less messy and certainly less expensive than what goes on in the US, whether it throws up the best man for the job, or more importantly, a person who is not afraid to think outside the box and take the country in new directions...well that's another matter.

I wasn't 'enthralled' by the Presidential election farce, Julie. That two stooges of the Military-Industrial-Political-Complex, the one that runs America, engaged in an endless television farce was very forgettable!

So what's next, Julie, the nuking of Iran? Whatever Imperial America does, both sides of Australian politics will cheer as they always do.

We fought against NAZI imperialism in WW2 and now we aid and abet rampant, brutal American imperialism with unabashed fervor.

Perhaps you could explain why?

The Chinese could conceivably take on and beat any of their near neighbours in military conflict, but not all of them together at the same time, and allies!
All while also successfully managing internal conflict, which unless SUCCESSFULLY resolved, could see China virtually hamstrung by endless civil conflict and or internal unrest.
Internal unrest, conflict, civil disobedience, is particularly problematic, for a nation almost totally reliant on conscription, for all of its military (mis)adventures?

Obama only needs sit and do nothing, if the rigidly recalcitrant Republicans controlling congress, want to continue to play hard ball, with the Nation's economic future?
Obama has nothing left to lose, by simply allowing the USA to fall over the so-called fiscal cliff! In fact, it would give him enormous leverage and bargaining power, to hammer the recalcitrant republicans with!
After all, all he would be doing is playing the Republicans at their own game of endless political posturing and or grid lock!
What's good for the goose is also good for the gander!
The very recent and quite convincing election results tell us, as well as anything can, that the voters have seen through all the particularly stupid, shoot yourself in your own economic foot, hold the whole nation hostage, political parlour game, played by people patently too obtuse to understand, the only people paying for their particularly pernicious, puerile putsch, are themselves!
Nor are they likely to be able to raise enough money any time in the foreseeable future, FROM A SHRINKING SUPPORT BASE, to buy an election!?
At least not while they keep lurching ever further, to the right!
Leaving mainstream more moderate America, with no other choice than electing more democrats or independents, as their only recourse!
More Democrats surely means, higher tax rates for the obscenely wealthy!?
AND NOT BEFORE TIME!
As the Oracle from Omaha, Warren Buffet says, the rich need to pay more tax, at least the same percentile as their employees!

Have you noticed Julia how we have become like China since 911? Bush brought in the Patriot Act which in effect has negated Habius Corpus.Obama brought in Preventative Dentention, legalised assassination of suspected terrorists ,then brought in the National Defence Authorisation Act.

John Howard brought in our Sedition laws which in effect reduces our rights to that of the USA.Anyone deemed a terrorist by our Govt or intelligence agencies can be held indefinitely without trial or legal council. The same laws rule in China.
