Is there room for saints anymore in the world of Twitter and Facebook where every indiscretion is preserved ad inifinitum?

...In this new age of empires where our most ardent attempts to elevate personal greatness translates into hero worship; then falls as flat as a drug cheat on a push bike. Would be future saints ought be drug tested by "God" me thinks!

A full circle, we all (again) live in a small town now, and it's about time, "Don't do as I do, do as I say" don't work any more. Very hard on the Poseur class as is being found out with the latest BBC crimes. Apart from being Pravda-on-Thames and prizes for comrades, now systemic kiddie fiddling can be added.

I think that the permanent preservation of failings and indiscretions on Twitter and Facebook are good things, as it helps the people to judge politicians. The continuing failure of the political class to recognise that as a basic minimum, the people expect politicians to be perfect, and that they usually would like them to be a bit above the minimum standard. The only exception is politicians who act to eliminate taxes and fund any deficiency from the sale of politicians assets.

The complete contempt that politicians of all parties currently demonstrate for the electorate needs to be viewed in the light of the contempt of the political that is returned in spades by the people.

This is best summed up by the old adage:

"The main tragedy of elections is that the only way you can remove the government is to elect the opposition".
