Oh noes! Filmmakers are sacrificing scientific accuracy for entertainment narrative?

"Filmmakers are sacrificing scientific accuracy for entertainment narrative?"
The same could be said about AGW scientists! Posted by cohenite, Thursday, 28 June 2012 9:59:15 AM

Hey, hey....while we're on the subject of entertainment narrative. It seems that Anthony is onto something - Kryptonite being to Superman what cohenite is to AGW (in his dreams : )

It's like Prometheus vs Plan 9 from Outer Space!

A well thought-out article, cohenite.
I have often wondered why so many of our arty types are particularly susceptible to manias, panics and popular delusions. Sometimes I surmise ,well , it’s only natural that having been feted for half a life for your (higher) creative/artistic sensibility one might also assume that one also carried the gene for higher morality. But at other times I surmise , no, it’s just a way of making themselves more newsworthy, to hog the limelight a little longer in their twilight years. However, there is one thing I am much more sure about. It’s that if some of the other posters on this threat (whose names I wont mention, but their initial letters are P & B) had their way. The message in the media would be driven home with a lot less subtlety. In their brave new world any screening(s) of Prometheus or Avatar would be accompanied by a prologue from Al Gore and an epilogue by Ban-Ki Moon, highlighting the AGW theme(s). SPQR,
"...of the other posters on this threat..." By and away the best Freudian slip I've seen all day. Btw, I stood in front of Warhol's "Campbell's Soup Cans" last week (being an arty far-seeing kinda gal) They are supposedly done by a printmaking method, and you can see the fine pencil lines for the lettering if you stand close enough....just saying. "Kryptonite being to Superman what cohenite is to AGW (in his dreams : )"
Frenchie one makes an appearance and collapses in an asinine puddle immediately. Can't wait to see what frenchie 2 comes up with. Actually Superman, in the Hollywood version of film intellectualism, is a Jesus surrogate, which also dovetails with the Hollywood narrative; it does so because AGW is really a version of the Eden myth which says that a natural paradise existed before humans exceeded natural limitations and screwed the whole thing up; which is exactly what AGW says. A more frenetic version of the Superman/Jesus juxtaposition is the Terminator brand, with the hero, John Connor the Jesus figure [JC, get it} and Big Arnie the Frankenstein monster. One of the subversive film series is X-Men; this series is subversive to the Hollywood AGW narrative because it allows for homo superior to be patently better and generally more moral than the superseded version of humanity. Even Magneto is given great justification for his nefarious plotting against old humanity. Another way of looking at Prometheus is that the progenitors regard humanity as a failed experiment. This is also consistent with the Green ideological component of AGW which is seriously misanthropic. Posted by cohenite, Thursday, 28 June 2012 11:23:19 AM

@Bugsy,
<<Nearly two in three Americans think President Barack Obama is better suited than Republican rival Mitt Romney to deal with an alien invasion, according to a survey released today>> Probably because Will Smith in Independence Day is still fresh in everyone’s mind. Obama seems in both temperament (whether it be illusionary or real) & appearance to more closely match the character Will Smith? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfPWpEKhgfk On the southern front, if Oz was invaded by aliens (of the UFO kind—or any other kind for matter) I’d much prefer to Abbot to Gillard. And Christine Milne…god help us… would probably want us to billet them out in the community & pay them welfare. Posted by SPQR, Thursday, 28 June 2012 11:29:49 AM

cohenite,
I'm sure bonmot has better things to do. SPQR, "Poirot 15 .SPQR 40 " I take it you're referring to OLO demerit points : ) Posted by Poirot, Thursday, 28 June 2012 12:04:17 PM

This thread is amusing, bizarre and pointless all in one lovely little package. Just like most of the internet really.
Oh, for the good old days of Hollywood when sci-fi was all about communism. Posted by Bugsy, Thursday, 28 June 2012 12:56:34 PM

"Oh, for the good old days of Hollywood when sci-fi was all about communism."
More likely paranoia as in Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which admittedly did symbolise the mindless 'red menace'. However another film which also was released in 1956 exemplifies the theme of not messing with nature and is a classic; and not just because it features a very young Leslie Nielson. That movie was Forbidden Planet. In this the ancient Krell provided a deadly lesson for humans; the Krell had undergone their elevation to God-like status by inventing a planet sized machine which converted their thoughts into physicality. Since they were moral, civilised beings they thought no problems would occur. Little did they realise that their primitive origins, their Id, would surface and destroy them all! A great movie and a salutory lesson for the Greens who are very Krell like in their moral pretensions. Posted by cohenite, Thursday, 28 June 2012 2:05:25 PM

Bugsy,
"This thread is amusing. bizarre and pointless all in one lovely package. Just like most of the internet really." Yep, just like Bradbury wrote:...except in this case we'll call the effect "cohenite 451". Posted by Poirot, Thursday, 28 June 2012 2:28:45 PM

>> I'm sure bonmot has better things to do. <<
Ain't that the truth! Certainly better things to do than spiral down to the level of Anthony Cox's new-found vocation. Bugsy's nailed it: Anthony Cox's article/cohenite's comments - amusing, bizarre and pointless all in one lovely little package. Posted by bonmot, Friday, 29 June 2012 2:16:00 PM

The 2 frenchies miss the point, as unsubtle as it is; the point is the Green narrative and AGW in particular is fiction; that is why Hollywood is up to its neck in its promotion.
AGW is only a movie folks; the problem is some people just can't tell the difference between fact [no AGW] and fiction [the world's going to end]. Posted by cohenite, Monday, 2 July 2012 8:54:31 AM
