Iron Dome is a mobile air defense system designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired (by naughty Arabs) from distances of 4 to 70 kilometers away whose trajectory would take them to a areas populated (by good Israelis) in all weather conditions.

Each Iron Dome battery consists of three launchers, each carrying 20 interception missiles.

On 10 March 2012, The Jerusalem Post reported that the system shot down 90% of rockets launched from Gaza into Israel. Rockets destined to land in unpopulated areas of Israel are automatically ignored.
