Its appropriate that the reviewer indicates she is a member of the Liberal Party because it is unfortunate that Eureka diggers are increasingly depicted as consciously leftwing and lovers of all things Irish (hence anti-English...?).

The influence of American liberal democratic diggers on Eureka should not be dismissed or covered up - another reason to get hold of Norman Bartlett's book.
