Government obfuscation and hypocrisy transforms a US military base into joint exercises. Puhleese.

Rubbish.

The US had done more than anyone to accommodate the rise of
China (MFN status alone)

But win-win situations through sit down talkfests are a nonsense in a world where different regimes/societies have very different ways of upholding their own national interests.

China will hopefully adapt, in line with the wishes of most other nations, albeit many are holding out their hands to Chinese investment. If not, tension will get worse.

As it wrote a while ago on OLO, the US v China, it is serious.

As I see it, Australia has now lost its sovereignty.
All we need now is an "incident" or a "provocation" to
occur between China and the US operating from Australia whilst they are out on their patrols and Australia's reputation will be dragged down in the area. All now beyond our control, thanks to our Australian Government.

Do come off it Bruce.

Trust an ex diplomat to get it all wrong. Rudd anyone.

This is just Obama buying Julia for a year or two.

She & her mates have sent us broke.

A nice US base will generate hundreds of millions, & keep Darwin in the black, & working.

Stop making a mountain out of a mole hill. If China & the US are going to go to war, it won't be with some slow clumsy bombers. They are for bush fires in minor areas of annoyance.

No, it will be with ICBMs, so stop grandstanding, as if you have some special insight. We don't buy it.

Article posted in the “Punch”: In part...

…# EAST Timorese Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao has taken in recent weeks to heavily bagging Australia, including a strange speech in which he, seemingly apropos of nothing, dug deep into the past and said Australia had selfishly cost the lives of 60,000 East Timorese by coming to Timor to “wage war” against the Japanese in World War II.
Gusmao has also been claiming Australian interference in its sovereign rights. Australia is studying the rhetoric closely, with good reason. As Gusmao slams Australia, his country’s biggest aid donor, Gusmao has allowed China for the first time to gain a small de facto military foothold in East Timor...#...

...And as for US Marines subverting the “morals” of the NT indigenous population with drugs! This has all the hallmarks of an article written on the back of a “coaster” at the local, late Friday night
