Hi, 579. Were you one of these people back in 2007 predicting four billion deaths 'by 2012'? Can you give us any reason why we should take your prediction more seriously than theirs?

This article slipped by me on Friday but now that I've caught up, the real surprise of the book's findings is just how closely the IPCC is entwined with green groups and how frequently the panel ignored its own rules.
As has long been known the panel is there to push global warming. It isn't there to adjudicate claims or make balanced forecasts about climate trends, but to raise awareness of the issue. It is an activist organisation - a UN funded greenpeace - which would be fine (most UN organisations show elements of activism), but for the fact that it is holding itself out as an independent arbiter. This article demonstrates the influence of environmental non government groups that is prevalent in most United Nations bodies and increasingly in Australia.
This influence is even greater now we have the greens in partnership with the ALP National and Tasmanian governments. For the Tasmanian historic intergovernmental agreements on forests ( probably the 4th since 1989) the Prime Minister announced an independent verification team to assess the competing claims of the ENGO's and industry. The team is lead by Jonathan West now a Professor at the University of Tasmania but in 1986/87 at the start of the forests wars he was the National Director of the Wilderness Society, his team includes Brendan Mackey who was a founding member of the Wild Country Science panel created to advise the Wilderness Society. Another member, Mark Burgman signed an open letter published by the Wilderness Society during the 2004 Federal election to demand more reservation of Tasmanian forests that he claimed to be of high conservation value. The Independent team has announced the paid engagement of two more 'experts': Sean Cadman former National forest campaigner for the Wilderness Society and Virginia Young also a former campaigner for the Wilderness Society. I wonder what the findings of these 'independents' will be? Will any one question the Prime Minister's judgement of appointing these people who are clearly not independent from the ENGO's?
