There are so many myths about the Thatcher years, the most prominent of which is that she cut public spending.
"Britain was thus not fully Thatcherised; but now that the welfare state has exceeded its sustainable limits, it will have to be." She did no such thing. During Margaret Thatcher’s premiership public spending grew in real terms by an average of 1.1% a year. But no lazy-arsed definition of Thatcherism would be complete without the gratuitous perpetuation of the Iron Lady fabrication, would it? She was as expedient as any other politician, but had the ability to fake sincerity when lecturing mere mortals on their shortcomings. It also helped that she was surrounded by a bunch of toadies, who thought that her nagging schoolmarm act was... kinda sexy. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2222270789 Yecchhh.
