If you bought a car that broke down as frequently as marriages do, you'd get it fixed. So let's fix marriage.

runner rather than spewing out your self righteous bile you might have a more honest look at human frailty and what more honest christian's have to say on the topic.

One interesting starting place is a reference to a book called
Torn Asunder: Recovering from an Extramarital Affair By Dave Carder, M.A., Duncan Jaenicke

http://books.google.com.au/books?id=MrwrvRxNv30C&pg=PT19&lpg=PT19&dq=rates+of+christian+infidelity+compared+to+the+general+population&source=bl&ots=ItVXtACwO3&sig=PT9glM4X-vkkm7YA6sCgU3OFSGU&hl=en&ei=cBiETof2Oa3biAKDz8TEDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CB4Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

The ability to keep vow's is not a uniquely christian trait nor is the ability to break them uniquely non-christian.

Whilst you obviously relish any opportunity to poor scorn on those who don't share you beliefs you achieve little but to remind the rest of us of how hateful some with your beliefs are.

A lot more social education must be put into teenage years rather than they learn their social education from Cleo and soap operas. This would mature youth to greater responsibility. Before embarking on a life long committment proper counselling and personality compatability should be undertaken.

The Government doesn't want functioning families otherwise they wouldn't put up so many obstacles. The economic models of today's Governments focus spending the tax dollar on foreigners sneaking into the country rather than helping the families of their own country.

Robert you write

'Whilst you obviously relish any opportunity to poor scorn on those who don't share you beliefs you achieve little but to remind the rest of us of how hateful some with your beliefs are.'

I pour no scorn and take no delight in those who have suffered through divorce (especially children). The simple fact is that godless secular values have produced the fruit that is inevitable. The easy observable fact that society is now more selfish than when based on Christian principles is obvious. Divorce is just one outcome of it. Other outcomes are abortion, teen pregnancy, more std's etc. I fail to see what is hateful in stating these facts. To suggest like the author did that 'we've realised that one person cannot possibly meet all our needs for the rest of our lives.' is a ridiculous notion.
Your accusations are baseless and false or is it that the truth can sometimes hurt even know not many tell it these days.

"Why is marriage, which seemingly worked well for hundreds of years in so much trouble? Perhaps the simplest reason is .."

...we now have a social security system which transfers wealth from men to women so that women can exercise their 'choice' and 'move on' when he no longer treats her like she 'deserves'.

This is confirmed by the fact that women initiate the overwhelming majority of divorces. She takes 'her' kids with her and the rest of us stupid men who work longer and harder than women pay taxes to support her and 'her' lifestyle 'entitlements'.

Phil

You have a long way to go in convincing the masses if the reactions here are anything to go by. Head in the sand, seems to be the common way of dealing with many issues of importance, instead of allowing everything onto the table and then have a round of critical thinking. People "feeling sorry" for those that think the system is broken and perhaps we should strive for something better, what kind of nonsensical drivel is that and how does it help the debate ?

You make some interesting points, worthy of consideration. It's not that the past needs to be resurrected as some would suggest (rose tinted glasses !), it's just that it no longer serves a modern society (ie the current system is broken, a 46% failure rate is insufferable and needs fixing)

As to "Runners" last point, that's a post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy.
