Has the 'net created a narcissistic cocoon where youth are permanently estranged from social mores and institutions?

I'm not sure that these young people live on digital platforms - the ones I know socialise a lot. Those insulated in a digital confined world seem to me to be politicians and such. I do think that this means they don't understand the rioters and I think this is a real worry.

Many of these people could not afford the internet much less a computer. How about looking at the real cause like grand theft by our financial systems?

Dear Angela,

An ideological, shallow, diversionary and not very well thought out article.

As discussed on another thread, our media commentariat loves to try to intellectualize this issue because it sounds good and offers diversions from the real causes.

“In Australia we consistently allow our attention to be drawn by our media, to the “symptoms” which allows that same media to conveniently label such symptoms. What we rarely get is any meaningful analysis of the “causes” which are a stunning match to the fundamentals of the Arab Spring.”

How about you explore some of the common causes rather than conveniently ignoring them?
