Hidden deep in the Budget papers (statement 6 of Budget Paper No 1) is the real scandal of this budget: provision for an additional 11.000 Commonwealth public servants. This will bring to just over 22,000 the increase in the number of Commonwealth public servants since the election of the ill-fated Rudd government in 2007.

What do they all do, we might ask? Just look at the increase in your tax bills as bracket creep grabs you and you'll be close to finding the only answer that matters.

I just watched Tony Abbott's Budget reply. How sensible & realistic. Give me half a Tony to two Julias any day.
