Daniel Quinlan,

Thanks for reminding the readers of Online Opinion that there is a region of this planet called Nepal that has someone living in it.

What you say about it is a story not unknown to any one who cares to observe the ways of the world.

You say:

“Much of Nepal’s woes stem from the failure to establish the rule of law, through a strong judiciary and robust and independent policing and security services that are accountable and trusted by the people”.

What you have noted during your time in that country must have been such as to make you long for a society less constricted, more orderly, where the rule of law is supreme.

I live in Australia under the rule of law. Yet, like you and like the people of Nepal, I dream of another world, one less inhumane.

The Law; who’s Law?

The Judiciary: Judging on whose Law?

Security services (you mean Police); accountable to the people?

Daniel Quinlan, please open your eyes.

Once the people have cast their Vote, the ball is under the Politicians feet and the show goes on just as before, just as in Nepal.
