By Richard Stanton, published 23/3/2011

For the most part politics has become populated by careerists and time servers. The only exceptions are outside the mainstream.

Well firstly there is no Labor/Green coalition in NSW. In fact Green candidates are actively campaigning in several electorates against Labor incumbents (Balmain & Marrickville).

Greens have also stated that they will not preference Labor during this election. So im struggling to see how you came up with a Labor/Green coalition in the NSW election?

with any luck NSW will continue what happened in Victoria and wipe out the greens and independents, nice experiment, but it didn't work .. so go back to what we know does work .. Indies and greens and other minor parties all want to dabble in the politics of what the can get for themselves which is out of all proportion to the rest of the community

parasites all of them

I'd say that applies even more strongly to Labor and the Coalition don't you think?

Unless you seriously believe that Labor wanted to streamline the dodgy Barangaroo development, and sell our lotteries and electricity assets out of the kindness of their hearts?

Anyway, my suggestion for this whole issue is this: Study your candidates, read the policies of the party they represent and if possible, some history on both, and vote for the least dodgy one that can actually form policy.

The election is now over bar the counting of a few votes and Fred Nile and the Shooters' and Fishers' Party hold the balance of power in the Legislative Council.

The Greens have been relegated to a position of insignificance but not unfortunately to oblivion, at least not yet.

Paulene Hanson may yet make it; to liven things up no doubt.
