Without looking very hard I found this where the United States of America abstained from voting on this prime example of human misery inflicted on one state by another. This was only one resolution in many vetoed by the USA on this subject. No wonder The United States of America is slipping down the slope.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1544, adopted on May 19, 2004, The Security Council reiterated that Israel, as the occupying power, to abide by its legal obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention, while it was called upon to address its security needs according to international law. It expressed its concern at the deterioration of the situation in the Israeli-occupied territories since 1967 and condemnation of the killing of a Palestinian in the Rafah area. The Council called on Israel to respect its obligations under international humanitarian law and end the demolition of homes in violation of that law. There was concern at the humanitarian situation of Palestinians made homeless in the Rafah area and emergency assistance was required. Both parties were called upon to end violence, respect legal obligations and immediately implement their obligations under the road map. The United States abstained from voting. The sad point is that Obama would veto the Lebanese resolution even if Netanyahu pleaded him not to, which I'm sure he secretly did!
Being an American, Obama cares about American interests, not about Israel and its security. If he ever truly cared about the welfare of Israelis, he would help Israel AND its government (which for obvious reasons is unable to state so openly) to stand against the violent settlers who threaten their very survival. Arjay,
I don't know why the Americans do it - but certainly not FOR Israel. Perhaps it is for the American-Jewish lobby, perhaps for the bunch of Jewish Americans that sit in Hebron and are the worst of Jewish-settler provocators, perhaps they are held for ransom by some billionaires, perhaps some other top-secret that neither you nor I are aware of (who knows, perhaps we will find in 100 years that it was part of a secret deal with China...). Helping the Israeli extremists to force themselves on the Israeli people and government to keep holding those cursed territories is acting AGAINST Israel, not for it. As for the Palestinians, if they wanted a free state (which many of them do not: Hamas for example demands a single Muslim state throughout the Middle-East) with full rights, they could have it long ago. All it would take is to cease terrorism and their stupid statements and attempts to destroy Israel and throw its inhabitants to the sea. Their problem is that they chose the violent path - if only they could learn from Gandhi... Posted by Yuyutsu, Sunday, 30 January 2011 3:20:16 PM

Dick Morris did this for Clinton and the things these bods say often seems to be very unexpected considering their underlying ideology.
That's where you see the focus group/market research influence on the speech writers.
It should be remembered that when Capitalism faced the crisis of consumer individuality, they hired the top marketing firms to FIND out what was going on, and this included SRI international, which was also employed for research on the Star Wars project.
Not exactly lightweight.
