Let’s hope that the underwhelming election campaign is eclipsed by a government that prizes the opportunity to lead from the front.

<< Let’s hope that the underwhelming nature of campaign 2010 and the initially inconclusive result is eclipsed by a people reinvigorated by a sense of each person’s worth in our democratic system and a government that prizes the opportunity to lead from the front. >>

With a bunch of independents in the box seats, we might just get the best quality government that we’ve had for a very long time.

Here’s hoping.

It does seem like an opportunity to reform some problematic elements of our parliamentary system. Also it is a good thing that regional Australia could benefit from the rural independents getting more of a voice.

Definitely agree that the result we have seen will (hopefully) get more people interested in the goings on of our democracy.

By demanding accountability and parliamentary reform from our politicians, we should see better government in the years to come. Now that the sides are being decided (Greens supporting Labor - though personally, not much of a surprise there...) whichever party forms government will have to think long and hard about the policies and legsilation that they present.

Having had the "band of 3" independents open to a lot of scrutiny these last week and a half, I think that 2 of the 3 are level-headed enough to make sure that the next government does not introduce stupid policies. And, surprisingly, they don't strike me as the type of people who will chuck a hissy fit and bring the next government down on a simple whim (a lot more than can be said for members of both major parties...).

The world will not end because we have a hung parliament, as some people seem to imply and really, when one party had control of one or both chambers, did the nation REALLY BENEFIT?
