Poor old military industrial complex...being starved of funds are we?
Has Haliburton and Blackwater already spent the $Billions in black funding? What about the CIA's black funding?
As for the "4.9% of GDP on Defence"...frankly I don't trust the numbers one bit. Too many secrets to trust this "accounting".
I am a big fan of *defence* spending as it can be used to help during disasters and suchlike. What these warmongering fools want is for the military to prop up their dollar and their dodgy overseas business dealings, and they want every taxpayer to pay for it. These same folks who want "small government" also want huge military budgets.
Be careful of the "don't weaken our country!" cry, it is similar to "but what about the children!".

The USA unable to meet all its defence commitments? What a joke!

We could get a better understanding of this issue by ceasing to refer to the military forces of USA as "defence" forces, and call them what they really are, offence forces. The USA has never needed to defend its mainland against the little countries it has recently been warring with: Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan... because those countries have never attacked the USA. In every case it is the USA that has provoked war, invaded, and brought all the resulting expense upon itself. So the solution is simple: just stop bullying other countries and starting wars. Close USA military bases overseas and stop trying to dictate to the world.
