It seems rather ironic that scientists who created nuclear weapons should be asked to help to bring about nuclear disarmament.

Why did they not find a conscience as they created the means for the total destruction of planet earth? Given the existence of nukes across the world now, it's like trying to close the door after the horse has bolted.

Perhaps we need to make laws that apply the death sentence to anyone who seeks to develop WMDs or is involved in their creation.

That might slow the political and scientific madmen down a little!

David Dickson must be an incurable optimist if he thinks nuclear disarmament is going to take place anytime soon. Why would it, whilst aggressive bullies like the USA keep trying to control the world and its resources for their own exclusive benefit?

As we see continuously, education can do nothing to impart any sense to the recipient. Most of those as naive as David seem to come from the educated class.

Any thought that the west could disarm itsel of its nuclear arms, & trust asian, & middle eastern governments to do the same is nothing short of stupidity. Any idea that those same governments would submit to adequate verification of their disposal of these wapons is just pie in the sky dreaming.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could come up with some test to see if those on whom we are about to spend education dollars, were likely to be of some use after those dollars were spent.

As the archer was only eliminated from the armory by the introduction of firearms, nuclear weapons are here to stay, untill something more destructive comes along to replace them.
