By Kim Holmes, published 15/3/2010

Many Europeans cheered when Barack Obama was elected president. But he hasn't lived up to European expectations.

Do we really need the opinion of a Heritage Foundation propaganda hack.

The "heritage" foundation---lies, lies and more lies.
Essentially a propaganda factory for the military-industrial complex.

Of course everyone has been disappointed.

Do you think that Obama could turn around the toxic legacy inherited from the Bush administration, and all the other assault on the USA body politic--and the plunderings thereof too. Which began with the "great communicator"---remember the Savings and Loan Scandals of the Reagan years. Applied "free" market economics and politics.

Remember Gingrich's "contract with America".

Plus the right-wing forces that associate with "heritage" have all been working in full drive to create a climate of hysteria around Obama and the NECESSARY changes that he wishes to make. Glenn Beck, Russ Limbaugh, Ann Coulter etc etc being the foaming at the mouth attack dogs for this hysteria, what it represents, and what it is invoking. Mass scapegoat politics.

Remember too that "heritage" provided much of the ideological basis for what Naomi Klein describes in The Shock Doctrine.

Many people and groups that associate with "heritage" are also ardent supporters of this charming organization http://soaw.org

Plus why not do some research on "heritage" and its origins, purposes, and its BENIGHTED founders/backers.

This is a good place to start:

Notice too that "heritage" is very much associated with the murdochracy described by John Pilger in todays posting.

Fox and "heritage" "news" anyone.

Yep, Ho Hum, like you I am truly worried that Obama may be forced to follow much of the Bush doctrine after all.

Such weakness might be already worrying the Europeans that we could be in for another big war?

As a so-called Mature Age academic, my mind can't help drifting back to the days when we had great hopes of a reformed League of Nations.

Talking about Europe they were mostly all for the UN, especially the Nordics, who supplied the wary and wonderful Hamascheld.

But as with the League, the UN was soon taken over by singular power in the shape of America.

In academia we later learnt so much about Kantian Philosophy where all democratic nations should be brought together into a single unit, with a leader possibly much more humbly sensible than a George W Bush.

The big trouble of course, is that we have always let the strongest economic nation not only supply the bulk of the war chest, but also the war leader.

Certainly the idea of a United Nations was to have been much more globally astute about political problems which have emerged since WW2.

Regards, BB, WA.

The fact that Obama *doesn't* stop following Bush's line doesn't mean he *can't*. Take Iraq. We now know that all the reasons given for going to war with Iraq were false. Obama is the commander-in-chief of the troops responsible for so much killing and maiming there - and that's only of American troops, let alone of Iraqis, which no-one ever seems to count. Obama even got a Nobel peace prize. There is no good reason why he should not withdraw America's troops and empire-building there right now - stop making excuses for him.

The peanut is too busy thinking about how he looks & sounds, to have any room left in that pea brain, for any rational thought.

Should be familiar to all Ozies. We have another of the same breed here in Oz.

I think you're being a bit harsh on both the author and Tony Abbott.

Keep it up, Mates - however, as they have shown astute political commonsense, what about asking the North Europeans what should be done?

Or rather what should be done about obama?

"The State Department's recent announcement that we would remain neutral in the Falklands Islands dispute between the UK and Argentina has only fueled that perception."

Uh huh so the US should wage into the meaningless squabble over the Falkland Islands? Have they even found all the landmines as yet? But I suppose there mightb be oil in the seabed hence the British concern...

*Europe may never get over its disdain for Mr Bush. But they may someday come to realise that things were not as bad under Mr Bush as they thought.*

ROFL. I remind the author that Clinton handed over to Bush a healthy
economy, with surpluses aplenty. His big crime it seems, was the
odd blowjob from the occasional intern.

Eight years later, Bush handed to Obama, a trainwreck of an economy,
a treasury stripped bare, with two wars on the go.

Bush took the US economy to the edge of depression, through sheer
incompetance. Now republicans seem to wonder why there are no
magic fairies to make it all go away.

Thankfully for Bush and Cheney, leaders cannot be jailed for
sheer stupidity, or they would both be locked up for life.

Don't expect magic fairies either, the turnaround for the US, will
take years and years.

My guess is that the power of the USA president is greatly over-rated. Obama might have wanted to withdraw all troops from Iraq, to impose sanctions on Israel to force it to behave more reasonably, to reform the USA banking system, and many more things, but when it came to putting such aspirations into practice he found he was not able to do it. When opposed by the military/industrial complex, the Jewish lobby, the power of the banks, Obama is left with very little he can do other than to make speeches. He can't even get agreement on a health care system like many countries of Europe, and Australia, adopted decades ago!

Very interesting news has just come in?

Silly Hillary has just lost her love for Netanyahu.

Couldn't believe that under-neath he was so nasty to the Arabs.

Of course both Hillary and Bill were always friendly with the Israelies.

Of course, for a long time now, to younger Israelies, Nazi death camps had just become painfully sad rather than ruthlessly cruel, as they themselves might become.

G'day Forkes, reckon you're spot on about the Bush mob still running the show.

Also about the Jews still steering the White House.

Fortunately there could be a change, as a couple of hours ago, news came over that Hilary Clinton's fallen out with Netanyahu.

Any good historian could tell us that both Bill and Hilary
were always too friendly with the Jew-world.

Unfortunately, it's taken less than 24 hours for Silly Hillary to be hauled back into line, with several USA "leaders" including Obama today claiming their alliance with Israel is as solid as ever.

An illuminating picture of the USA's relationship with Israel was shown on Australian TV in the days leading up to the Israeli insult to USA vice-president Biden... I will long remember pictures of the beaming Biden visiting numerous Jewish religious sites, at times wearing a little Jewish skull-cap to indicate his unity with the Jews.
