Sports and games are for improving physical fitness and
recreation. But what is the present trend now? Sports and games have
become a career for people like Sachin. How can playing be one's
career? No wonder such people have to suffer ailments caused by over
extension of their physiological limits. We find that playing brings
ill health instead of physical fitness. This is a paradox. So fitness
camps before criket matches is a mockery.Playing itself should lead to
physical fitness.
Physical fitness does not need sophisticated stadiums and artificial
surfaces.Huge money spent for sports and games is a waste. This money
can be spent for providing water, good food and other basic facilities
for millions the world over.
Now sports and games have become a show business. This is a serious
malady affecting the sports arena. This is nothing short of hijacking
of sports movement.Misguided Industrialists and cinema people buying
players for criket matches is a sad story.Cheer women half naked
dancing during criket matches and the gala opening and closing
ceremonies in Olympics are a slur on the sports spirit. The tall talk
of Integration and other good effects of events like the Olympics is
but a mirage.
Let all nations compete for supremacy in good human qualities
and not in showcasing their physical prowess. The present trend is
nothing but a escape phenomenon from stark reality. Let us hope that
good sense prevail in the future.

There's a difference between amateur sports and professional sports.

Amateur, low scale activities are mainly about socialisation and fitness. But professional activities are mainly about public entertainment and earning money. They are two completely different things. One is about health, both mental and physical, and the other is just consumerism.

Both amateur and professional approaches have been around for centuries, but modern technology makes professional sport available to be watched at the flick of a switch. That's why it is so widespread. I don't consider professional sport to be real sport.

Professional sports are here to stay and quite frankly, I enjoy watching many of them.

They generate huge dollars, something that is evident by the thousands who attend events and the millions who watch the telecasts every week.

Like anything on TV, if you don't like it switch it over.

As for fitness. Professional sport is not designed to provide fitness, it is essential though that players are fit and they achieve their fitness through rigorous fitness programmes.. There is a difference.
