Run rabbit, run rabbit, run, run, run : Comments

By Rodney Crisp, published 3/11/2009

Rabbits are the greatest pests in Australia, so why disband an organisation that works to keep them off prime Queensland farmland?

Rodney,I agree entirely with what you say.More so that I was born in Dalby and brought up in that region so I know where you are coming from.

What we have in Queensland is a morally corrupt government.Moral corruption inevitably leads to criminal corruption as in the Nuttall affair which is just the tip of the iceberg. The current Labor government is at least as corrupt as the Bjelke-Peterson government was.The main difference is that they learnt from the Fitzgerald Royal Commission how to better conceal it.

Corruption inevitably leads to incompetence and this has been obvious over the entire term of the Beattie/Bligh government.
Cutting necessary long term expenditure to cover the short term bottom line is illustrative of this incompetence.Cutting waste and unnecessary expenditure is obviously not high on the agenda - the recent spending of over a million dollars on a propaganda campaign to justify (sell) the privatization of government(citizen's) assets is a good example.

Well put,Manorina.

The late Russ Hinze would have dipped his Lid to this lot,in pure admiration and envy !They make the big man look like a rank amatuer.

Their having more Minders and a legion of Spin Doctors is the difference. He also had, both a sence of humour and an understanding of the real world ,neither of which this present lot have.

They don't know when they have passed the point where people stop believing them.

Sad really, because its' Queensland that is the loser.

RABBITS AS PETS IN QUEENSLAND
It is important to have a balance and allow people freedom. Animal issues often provoke emotional discussions. Queensland people are robbed of the right to own a pet rabbit due to the strong political push of the Farmers Federation. People moving into Queensland often bring their pet rabbits from other states only to find heartbreak when the laws prohibit them. The Pet Directory Editor http://www.petdirectory.com.au

I have seen the rabbit proof fencing and witnessed it being maintained.

I would suggest it is yet another government 'cut back' due to the huge amount of wasted money over the past decade, during what must be described as the 'best years' of recent times so far as government revenue goes.

Now on the other hand, this fence serves one purpose only and that is to offer protection to the farmers from rabbits, so, why don't the farmers, who are being protected, take up the bills and fund this fence and the ongoing maintenance costs.

Why should the tax payer at large fund this fence?
