Can the Commonwealth win back the affections of Australians? : Comments

If the Commonwealth cannot win back the affections of more Australians it may not see its 70th birthday.

Why keep the Commonwealth at all? Why not extend the European Union to a union of all democratic countries? Why not apply to the European Union?

Danny exhorts us to become more interested and involved with the Commonwealth.
That woud be fine, if only he or his organisation would tell us just what the purpose of the Commonwealth is.
We know nothing, because we are told nothing.

Well, it furnishes a boost to the domestic garment industries every two years when the various heads of state swathe themselves with ridiculous native costumes. Offsetting that, of course, is the enormous cost and inconvenience of hosting these absurd meetings -- honestly, have these guys never heard of the Internet? So let it crash and burn... who else gives a hoot, anyway?
