Yes, Mongolia is an important country in it's own right, and from an Australian perspective. Landlocked between the Russian bear and a billion plus Chinese, Mongolians have to possess strong skills to survive. These skills include toughness, independence and stubbornness. All the reasons that the Oyu Tolgoi agreement has taken so long to come to fruition. But should this development go ahead, Australia's mining fraternity has just the right skill set to match that of the Mongolians and give rise to mutual benefits from this major mineral development. And these skills are just as much, if not more so, in remote area community development and environmental protection as in extracting ore and processing it. The South Gobi is a stunning place. Mongolia is a very poor county. Let Mongolians dictate the pace, but we can assist and we have more in common then a glance at the map would suggest.
