Being a humanitarian worker is a dangerous profession: more than 100 aid workers were killed last year.

Good article.

Afghanistan is probably the most extreme case (this side of North Korea). Afghanistan is a flak jacket war zone where typical aid workers, frequently with a Christian and feminist humanitarian mission, are definitely unwelcome.

Closer to home and more moderate I wonder what readers think of the dangers to aid workers in East Timor?

Are bodyguards needed or helpful?
