By Sasha Uzunov, published 24/6/2009

Big name journalists, because of their power and influence, can become accustomed to getting their own way.

One does wonder how modern media and the national polity of Defence might have behaved in the 1930s when two giants were regular "bloggers" of the day; Winston Churchill and Basil Liddell-Hart? Both of whom were proven correct and thus the "establishment" not!

The writer makes some very interesting points, especially the one about "selective freedom to scrutinise". I believe that this "selective freedom" is being misused by a group of predominantly women journalists who perceive a shared commitment to Feminist doctrine. There are innumerable cases of stories being buried, most recently the release by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics in relation to female-perpetrated domestic violence. It first appeared only 3 days ago and yet it no long appears anywhere as a clickable link on the websites of the News Limited press, despite much older and less important stories remaining within 1 click of the front page for weeks.

I have noticed the same thing from News Limited, especially the Courier-Mail, for some time. Any story that may be antithetical to Feminist dogma is removed from easy access as soon as possible.

The converse also applies, with stories that may be supportive of that dogma being regularly pushed to the front page for several days.

TV reporting is just as lacking in integrity, with selective scrutiny being applied to male misbehaviour and almost no recognition of the female equivalent.

I'm all for a free media, but I'm also all for integrity and impartiality. Once, journalists also regarded those as worthy aspirations.

Major media licences should be forfieted because media is not fairly reporting essential news of substance to consumers of publications.

There is big business in security that is not needed if there is peace, so why report truth about war? Why not just let war continue with inadequate equipment and even inadequate quality food for regular troops.

There is the supposedly idyllic South Pacific where peace is collapsing with indicative situations and incidents the likes of the ABC and major commercial media are not investigating and reporting. Knowledge is imperative to achieve solutions.

In the SW Pacific islands there are now land and severe food shortages. Arable available land on small islands and an increased population, coupled with devastated traditional fish food supply from the ocean, has already led to unrest and worsening poverty. Poverty amongst many people is now long term, chronic, impact including a 69% increase in maternal mortality. Real cause of the situation is not being investigated and duly reported by the ABC or major media.

The Melbourne Age especially has failed to duly report the signs and symptoms of marine ecosystem damage and impact including mass starvation of Victoria's fairy penguins. Unprecedented starvation and mortality of mutton birds extending along coast from Rockhampton Qld to Sth Aust and around Tasmania was gagged. Likely weakness due to hunger in whales probably resulting in calf abandonment and some whales seeking shallow water to prevent drowning, is not being duly investigated, reported or debated.

I am not even a greenie. Malnutrition amonst decent indigenous people in the Pacific has been driving me to seek solutions, but will journalists and major media help or denounce the situation? No, there is just silence. The ABC is manipulating news about vital ocean incidents that indicate the devastationj and crisis.

So what are possible motives for failure to investigate and report what is really happening? Continuing war helps continuing security business. Devastated wild fish stocks allow for aquaculture that is being developed right now, this being amazing while the whole world ocean environment is being allowed to collapse.
