The US, not winning in Iraq and losing in Afghanistan : Comments

By Bashdar Ismaeel, published 24/3/2009

The US and the West simply can not afford to judge the Middle East in terms of its parts, without looking at the bigger picture.

"The new US drive was best summed up by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, emphasising their immense effort to create more partners and less adversaries."

They could start by taking their troops out of 130 countries, stop running a military empire, stop acting as the policeman of the world, stop plundering their own people to pay for it, withdraw their troops within their borders, and use them only for defence for the first time in a very long while.

Wing Ah Ling is spot on.
What would the US say if China started occupying hundreds of countries and occasionally bombing their commercial competition?
The CIA's actions (even just the ones we know about!) alone would be grounds for war.
Now that the US is practically insolvent we can expect the countries that have been bullied by the US to start pushing back. Be prepared for screams of indignation when the exact same tactics that the US uses are used on them. (China is already starting) Whats good for the strong is not so much fun when they are weak.
Prediction: the opium crop will not diminish so long as the US stays in Afganistan. Cash is just too much a part of the US war model.
BTW. To those who believe the US is a bastion of "small government" and free enterprise. Actually their military is one of the biggest "socialist" organs in the world! The military is centralist, government funded and creates corrupt, secretive business deals. Pity it is used to prop up international finance instead of assisting the US population, or heaven forbid...actual defence!
