Parents have got to be kidding themselves if they think their child is exchanging school notes or iTunes behind closed doors.

Thank you Stephen. You have identified possibly one of the most pressing generational issues of our time - the incompetence of some parents at their crucial role - parenting. I have worked in indigenous communities and in the the early childhood field focussing on children with disabilities. Professional advice falls on deaf ears because some parents refuse to change anything about how they deal with the child. And we - the long suffering representatives of 'the system' - get blamed for the appalling results. These parents have no idea of long-term consequences, appropriate boundaries, consistency and the myriad other skills vital for a child's development.

When it's all said and done, the pregnancy becomes obvious, whatever happened to the 'safe sex' message?

Finally I salute all those fantastic parents out - most of you - there who are doing a fine job of raising our new generation.

Well done, far too many parents these days think kids are an event that shouldn't affect their lifestyle.
Indigenous groups are going to have to deal with this themselves, as giving birth control to Indigenous kids would be problematic for Government.
