By Arch Roberts Jr., published 20/1/2009

Mere talk of nuclear weapons serves as a shield for Tehran.

"The current conflict in Gaza provides an example of Iran’s strategic ambitions."

Yet another mouthpiece for America's invasive foreign policy speaks. Mouthpiece somehow ignores the value to Isreal of exterminating Palestinians.

Perhaps Iran wants the Bomb because it doesn't want to be invaded for its oil by America. Iraq experienced this fate based on trumped-up excuses.

Furthermore Iran's enemies, America and Israel, have nuclear weapons so why can't Iran have them? Or is there an accepted double between US/Israel and much weaker countries like Iran?

As a mature-age academic and middle-roader, one has learnt to admire Iran not only as a descendent of the Greater Persia, but one able to withstand the modern pressures of rampant ME neo-colonialism.

Such is glaringly revealed in the apparently permanent US Baghdad Green Zone, one hoping that Obama has the political commonsense to give it back to the Iraqi people to whom it belongs.

Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons .The iranains are building power stations to power iranian homes.Other country's do not want iran to advance into the world of tomorrow and achieve creating a future for themselves. If iran wanted to use nuclear weapons they could of bought nuclear weapons from russian mafia bosses. If you have the money you can buy anything .I suggest investing in iran and maybe you might see the truth about iran. Thanks David.

As a long-time anti-nuclear activist, it has been clear to me that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons. Iran's interest is fuelled probably more by inter-Muslim rivalry (Iran being Shia, the largest minority group in Islam) more than anti-Semitism, even though it exudes the latter in spades. (Note that Iran said almost nothing when Israel bombed the Syrian's attempt at nuclear technology.)
A 'Lybian' solution probably isn't going to be found for Iran - giving up its home-grown nuclear business for recognition and redress is not as attractive.
The solution? I don't think any will be found for many years. Many aspects of this problem will have to change.
