Losing the ideas game : Comments

By Graham Ring, published 18/11/2008

Some of the commentary on Indigenous Affairs in this country has become so poisonous that the very object of the game has been forgotten.

If people want to join the ranks of the witless morons who habitually hawk their often ignorant and shallow opinions around the more desperate emags, in the guise of expert commentators on Indigenous affairs - or even just as disingenuous bright sparks - then they have to expect to cop critical feedback.

This is particularly so when they choose to take sides in heavily contested political debates, and parade themselves as persons of intellectual or moral gravity.

Even more so, if they periodically & arrogantly pour gratuitous scorn on seriously committed achievers such as the courageous Brough, Macklin, Rudd and Pearson.

If they have any particular expertise to substantiate their pontificating, other than generic "award winning writer" or "Top End based thingy" tags, or even just some relevant track record of living and working in remote Aboriginal communities, then they would presumably let us know.

Having a regular column in the NIT is not really enough.

I would like to think that some of the contributors to this forum will take the point, address the issues and desist from the personal vitriol.

I look forward to the day when Australia's Indigenous downtrodden find their own voice and no longer require their concerns to be relayed through 'spokespersons.'

google search's by headline
the title dosnt match the content

there is one of 'my idea's for your regestry
[a particularily dumb idea ; along the lines of bill gates'new'idea to register art work[at 5 bucks a picture]

you see your blogger with 2 members[one of them is copyrighting the stuff he dont post as soon as some other THINKER posts it.

go figure[its human nature]

so we move on to the point that SHOULD have been in the title;due to the oft quoted referance to indiginous content[my mark address the cure[not comPOUNDING the problem]

we are all for the most part a result of our sociaty, the sociaty [influences]are not the same for a school with 20 students[total] compared with 2000,but we cant agree on this

the cure is to help people realise the best they are capable of,
thus govt has its duty to train locals to service locals need, this begins with training the best of the particular tribe[town, settlement, gulag]how to best serve his own.

what comes to mind is we begin by training the best to grow food[he/she thus becomes the local lettuce grower,or,the milk man,or the baker etc

tribes are set up along these NATURAL progression via the individual skills[and appart from painters and dancers few are being trained to their speciality

[that allows the next stage, sending their kids to get'educated'into the higher specialities[poli-tricks,law#/lore,medicine,building welding carpentry plumbing etc

but in each case using the decentralisation[act ;train LOCALLY if possable but by bording schools if need be,to serve local needs]electing their own major to dog-catcher[even so far as having grade qualified teachers,or specialists[like health has its 'specialists'

like going on a plane every day for blood cleaning isnt best use of limited currency

give out franchise to the best to achieve the best that is available
[the trick is to get the cash CIRCULATING locally[currently it goes to the shop then out of town forever]

but what am i bothering to say this on this two bit site of back biters[only stealing my ideas;so they can get the spotters fee for their cure.[you know im joking grayman]

One of the problems with ideas on indigenous affairs is that very often there is no subtance to the differentiation between indigenous affairs and any other person affairs. So ideas get confused if an indigenous person puts forward an idea based on the assumption that being indiginous means you are different to a non indiginous person. So the idea of anonymous presentaion of ideas has great value especially when the race colour or creed of the speaker is part of the image surrounding the idea. For instance the hawking around of the idea of describing whites in aboriginal community service "white trash" would have been dealt with much more calmly if the colour creed and race of the hawker had not been clear.

I must confess that I sometimes get turned off reading a post here on OLO when I see the name of certain authors - and masking the name might lead me to adopt a more generous and objective position.

I know I should be looking at the quality of the ideas regardless of whose they are. But yet, you know, we all like to avoid wasting time and when said authors have bored me witless with inanities on a number of occasions, I for one will take defensive action (well inaction to be precise) whenever I can.

" ... I look forward to the day when Australia's Indigenous downtrodden find their own voice and no longer require their concerns to be relayed through 'spokespersons.' ... "

The last person I heard object to "White People," notably not another concerned members of the Human Race, speaking about Original Australian issues was Robert Bropho at a John Pilger conference at Curtin Uni, WA.

As for BlakFellas not having their own voice, well, in the cases of certain individuals, I don't think anything could be further from the truth.

OLO software does need an upgrade - most forum software has the facility to block users u'd rather not read as well as a host of other features, such as picture posting.

As for Dan, well, mate, u may not have noticed but OLO already has wules, which even apply to flag wavers for mr wudd et al. There are mechanisms for initiating improvements or otherwise if u don't like the wules (snicker, snicker) and thereafter I would suggest that if U adopt the tactic of ridicule all those outside yr position in the 1st instance and then seek to determine the topic according to yr own views, limit the frame of reference and manner of discourse, including who should and who shouldn't be able to contribute, then I expect that more than a few of the people here will laugh at U.

;-)

As for Mr Wudd, there is an outstanding determination by the UN that Australia is a racist country. I note though that moves appear to be underway to micro manage all child abusers, though on cursory examination have yet to see a bill amending the SS Act.

So far, I've only seen a bit of sledging here roundabouts, but am looking 4ward to the body line campaign about to start on a pyrophic WA wicket as of today.

Stick around, I expect U'll make for a good target.
