The urban air pollution in China leads to hundreds of thousands of premature deaths each year.

Just to add: - Today (Oct. 2) Beijing acted on the results of the referendum regarding adopting the traffic measures in force during the games. As there was an overwhelming majority in favour of making these measures mandatory this has now been done.

Also: on September 2 a 40% tax on 5 litre motor car engines, a 33% tax on on 3 - 5 litre engines and a 1% tax on 1 litre engines was imposed country wide.

Many other measures are being taken - one wonders why they don't get given the publicity in the West that infringements do?
