How can it be anything but hypocritical and discriminatory for Australia to uphold minimum standards, in pay and conditions, for workers within Australia, while importing cheap goods from countries with lower standards?

The uncertainty will be only for short term.

The introduction of the law is inevitable. Everybody knows that. One fundamental reason. The Chinese government cannot stand in power for long if the poor situation of the workers stayed unimproved. The price of losing a country and the price of losing some factories, which one will you take?

With better balanced structure, Chinese economy today is different from what it was 30 years ago. Losing some investment can't slash the whole system. Today, the risks in other areas are much significant.

After all the substantial market of China is the ultimate attraction to every businessmen doing business with China, including Chinese businessmen themselves. The extra labor cost would probably only reduced their profits from 80% to 60%. Bosses are still making good money. And you can't find anywhere else enjoying an anverage growth rate up to 10% in the period of 30 years or so.

Therefore, the uncertainty is only for time-being. Everything will be fine.

There is one certain thing: it is suprised and disgusting to find that some western companies complained about the new law introduction! Aren't they talking about human rights?
