There is a different way to look at tackling global warming. And that is, instead of seeing it as a Government to Government issue use the ‘Pareto principle’ (the 20/80% rule) which means 20% of the worlds Corporations produce 80% of the worlds green house gasses.

When you view the problem this way you are identifying those that can be encouraged, assisted or compelled to meet the challenge whether they are in China, India the USA or anywhere else
for that matter. Instead we still under Howard say “if China doesn’t join, then we won’t”.

Targeting Corporations takes the burden of the poor countries and puts the responsibility back on the shoulders of those that are actually causing the problem within those countries.

You could add GreenPeace,Aust Conservation Foundaton,Nature Conservation Council and WWF to that list because of the land management policies that they have promoted have seen millions of heactares of native forests burn in high intensity fires through the late nineties and into the noughties.
This has caused the unnessecary release of tens of millions of tonnes of greenhouse gases that could of remained locked up.
These tree's will grow back but will we have more resonable management techiques that will protect these forests rather than locking them up and letting nature take it's course.

You are right Little Bro. in The NT Aborigonal Park Rangers are limiting the amount of wild fires adding excessive CO2 to the atmosphere by managing low intensity regular burns.
In Tasmania the forestry industry have huge burn offs of the remains of clearfelling, in in this case they waste a great resource or feed stock for making Char. Char just happens to be a basic ingredient in restoring pasture and rebuilding top soil.
